The One Where I Go To University.

So this coming Friday I am flying the nest to start University. I am scared. I am nervous. I am anxious. I am excited. I am a real home bird so leaving home is going to be tough but I know it will be worth it. I took a year out of education after my A Levels and have been working around 30 hours per week behind a bar and waitressing, this job has helped me so much with my confidence and just general life skills but I couldn't do this job permanently (people are rude sometimes!). I will be studying Fashion Communication & Promotion at Nottingham Trent, I am truly excited about starting this course but going back into education is gonna be a bit strange. The course itself though sounds so cool though and I think it will be the stepping stones to my future career.

As I said I am a home bird, I have never lived away from home for an extended period of time and moving out scares the shit out of me but I know if I don't do it that I will be stuck in some dead end job with little to none life experiences and socialising with people that I can't really relate to. So I figured I'd take a leap since University definitely feels like the right path for me. At the moment I live in a place where everyone knows everybody and everything they do so moving to a city is exciting*.  I can't wait to live somewhere with things going on around me that I can get involved in.

How sweet is the care package my auntie made for me; mini bottles of wine...yes please!

In all honesty Nottingham isn't that far away from my family home but I would still be terrified if I was just moving down the road because I would still be living alone. I know I will cry when I'm saying my goodbyes and I know I will probably feel a bit deflated at first but once I get into the swing of things it will all be worth it. There will be a lot going on in the first few weeks which should hopefully prevent the homesickness from sinking in and if it doesn't well....there is Facetime!

In this day and age studying at university is expensive and obviously becoming independent is gonna add up, I would say I am quite money smart, I have quite a bit saved up and I am a savvy spender but my student loan doesn't even cover my accommodation costs so I will have to get even smarter with my pennies (maybe expect less hauls and more wishlists then!). So yeah, unfortunately my materialistic tendencies will have to fall by the wayside slightly because I'm gonna have to pay for my food (actually excited at getting to do a proper food shop for myself!) plus I've gotta fund nights out and whatnot, but then I guess money problems is all part of becoming a student!

So are any of you heading off to University soon and if so are you as excited/nervous as I feel? If you're already at uni or have been then.... any advice?  By the way I promise not to neglect blogging but I might get a bit behind during the next few weeks because I expect things are gonna get pretty busy!

*Sorry for overusing this word a tad!

  2. I'm at university and I absolutely love it. In my final year now, but its the best thing I've ever done. I would say really make the most of these first few weeks! Its a time where everyone is in the same boat and its completely acceptable to put yourself out there and talk to anyone and everyone, however nerve-wracking it may seem! Don't hide away, embrace everything and you will love it I'm sure.
I'm so jealous that you are just starting, I'd give anything to be able to live it all again, and not in a bad way, simply because I don't want it to end!
    Good luck & enjoy!

  6. I go to Nottingham Trent and am going into my third year too! Honestly you have absolutely nothing to worry about! Nottingham is an amazing city and Trent is honestly one of the best uni's for socialising and nightlife! I live in Nottinghamshire and I thought I was going to get homesick too, even though my mum and dad were only half an hour away! But trust me, the second you meet your flatmates you can't wait for your mum and dad to leave and all you care about is making friends and planning the night ahead. You won't get as homesick as you think, you'll be more hyped with adrenaline and excitement! You have fresher reps to help you move in and they practically live in your block for the whole of freshers week and gather everyone in your block so you all make friends. They go on the nights out with you too and encourage everyone to have as much fun as possible! I was a fresher rep last year and I can honestly say I had the best week of my life, it was even better than my own freshers week!!

I'm so jealous that you're studying fc&p, I've looked into it before and always thought it sounded AMAZING. I'm stuck with boring old History :/ But honestly don't worry and feel free to message me if you need any questions answering! I'll probably be able to answer anything you wanna know :) Good luck! xx
