OOTD: the sky all pastel shades

So this OOTD isn't entirely black this time but it is Christmastime so I thought I'd make a bit of an effort! I saw this corduroy pinafore dress on a girl when I was doing a street style project for my course and I liked it instantly so I was pretty pleased when I saw it in Primark and only about £12!

I fell in love with this t-shirt when I saw the gorgeous Cara Delevigne wearing it but I couldn't track it down anywhere in the UK and then when I was browsing through the Asos sale the other day I found it! Reduced from £30 down to £9.....yes please! I'm not normally a fan of statement tees but I couldn't resist the cheeky text on this one and look at the cute baby animals.

BUDGET BEAUTY HAUL

So on Monday I went on a rather unintentional shopping trip with my mum, I did not intend to buy anything but since all my purchases were pretty cheap I don't feel too bad. I know a lot of people dismiss shops like Home Bargains, Poundland and Boyes as being cheap and tacky but honestly if you are from the UK - try them out. You never know what you might find. Anyway on with my purchases...

As you can see I found some pretty decent stuff in Poundland so all that rummaging through the rack was worth it! The Dainty Doll shadows are so pigmented and are something I have been wanting to try for ages, 'Copacabana' is a matte electric blue and 'Jungle' is a shimmery jade green. I really like both colours and I am quite excited to try some bolder looks soon.

Okay so I was actually so amazed to find these L'Oreal lip products in the loose tray of Boyes and at such cheap prices! So I couldn't resist, although my mum did ask if I really needed more lipstick. The answer was yes. The answer is always yes. The Technic glitter paint is just a hexagonal holographic glitter topcoat that looks really pretty with cool toned nail paints. 

SUPERDRUG

COLLECTION LASTING PERFECTION CONCEALER - £3.99 (usually £4.19)

So not technically a budget store but Superdrug have got some good deals on make-up at the moment so it made sense to repurchase my favourite concealer ever with a 20p saving.

Part five of my weekly Friday favourites. As I type this post I am sat basking in the wonderful summer heat in my back garden, ahh thank god it's my day off so this precious sun won't be wasted. Anyway let's get on with what I've been loving this week...

HERE COMES THE SUMMER

Yup, the sun and the warmth are one of my main favourites this week and I know it seems like us Brits are continuously debating and discussing the weather but when it's this nice then I am going to partake in such tradition.

SCOTT PILGRIM vs. THE WORLD

Oh my, did I fall in love with this film it is just the perfect mix. Michael Cera (one of my fave actors) + quirky geeky awkward comic book coolness = heaven. I am utterly ashamed of myself of not having watched this film until this week

MY HOMEMADE BREAKFAST BURGER

So I got home from work one day this week and all I wanted to eat was stodge so I combined my two favourite meals - breakfast and chicken burgers to create the breakfast burger mmm. All you need is some baked beans, crispy bacon, a fried egg, two chicken burgers and a breadcake and voila: c'est heaven in a breadcake. Oh and don't forget the onion rings! Trust me this is really good comfort food.

REKORDERLIG STRAWBERRY AND LIME CIDER.

Oh yes, this is my summertime drink it tastes divine and it's strawberry and lime: my favourite combination. 

Since I am a self-confessed TV addict I thought I'd share with you some of my highlights from this week.

LUTHER- My favourite detective show because it is such a high octane thriller that actually made me perch upon the end of my sofa when I watched it this week.  

SKINS: FIRE PART II - The concluding part to Effy's story and I was not disappointed. It made me cry and laugh and just be all round marveled at the filming, the script and the acting.

GEORDIE SHORE - Okay maybe I shouldn't admit this one but I can't help but love it. Yes it is trash TV at its worst (well in my eyes best) but lemme tell you once you start watching it you get hooked and you actually care about whether Gaz and Charlotte should be together or not. 

PhoneShop - I have just finished watching series 1 & 2 on 4od in preparation for series 3 to arrive. I wouldn't say it is a must watch show but it is still plenty likable and perfect bath time viewing. 

NOW FOR SOME EAR CANDY...

LONDON GRAMMAR – WASTING OUR YOUNG YEARS

This is such a hauntingly beautiful song and it is the perfect soundtrack to accompany some of my inner-thought moments when I am walking and pretending to be in a film. 

ROBERT DELONG – HERE

This was the free iTunes download of the week and sometimes these can be a bit hit and miss but this song I really like. It feels dark and moody but the beat makes you want to dance, possibly in slow motion under the strobes.

ALEX TURNER - SUBMARINE EP

I put this on the other day and I’ve had it on repeat ever since. I really like re-listening to songs I haven’t heard for a bit. This EP is a collection of songs that are superbly written and delivered, and the lyrics really mean a lot to me.

THE CHAMELEONS – FREE FOR ALL.

A blast form the past but their tracks still sound as fresh today and I've been liking this track in particular this past week.

ARCTIC  MONKEYS - DO I WANNA KNOW? Okay yes this track was on my It's Friday. I'm In Love a week or so back but I cannot stop listening to it. It is poetry in a pop song. 'Nuff said. 

RIMMEL OXFORD ST. FUCHSIA

This is the lippy I threw into my handbag this week and I have to say I have been loving it a lot. It is part of the Rimmel Moisture Renew family which is my favourite formula of lipsticks and it is this really gorgeous slightly bubblegum pink on the lips (although it looks more of a muted rose pink in the bullet). I think it's really fun and cute to wear in the daytime because you still get that pop of colour without it being too 'woah' and in your face. I found this lipstick for 99p in my local Boyes store but you can get them from eBay here for as cheap as chips!

Okay so I guess that would be a wrap on this edition of my Friday favourites so I am gonna go kick back in the sunshine with an ice cold fruit cider, yumyum. Hope you are all well!

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN LOVING THIS PAST WEEK?

RIMMEL PRECIOUS STONES 'DIAMOND DUST' REVIEW

 

I purchased this shade a month or so back from Asos but I only properly tried it out last week. For me this polish took 3 coats to build up a solid colour and since it is quite slow drying it was quite a long process. Diamond Dust is a sapphire blue with a grey undertone and flecks of holographic sparkle to it which is a really beautiful colour in the bottle.

  I bought this polish because I thought it would be a stunning sparkly shade however it dries matte which somewhat dulls down the colour which did disappoint me a bit. If like me you don't like this muted finish then use a high shine top coat to finish the look. Another flaw of this polish for me was the texture, once the nail paint is dry it has quite a gritty finish which feels almost like grains of sand (again, nothing a top coat won't fix). The removal of this nail polish was a right pain in the arse; I practically used one cotton pad per nail and it took bloody ages!

 

 So all in all I wasn't too impressed with this Rimmel nail polish but then I'm not a fan of matte nails but it is a very pretty colour. I will definitely be trying it with both an undercoat and a topcoat.

March Poundland Purchases

Poundland's or Poundshop's are really great places to pick up beauty supplies, I frequently buy products like cotton buds and cotton pads up instead of paying excessively for the same thing elsewhere but recently I have been looking through their make-up stand and finding some bloody good things. You can read my first post on my first Poundland beauty haul here. So this time round I found Rimmel, Revlon and Sleek products and I love these brands full price so since they were just a pound it would be rude not to take them to the checkout. 





Eyelure cotton pads doublepack, Rimmel French manicure polish in 'Rose Praline', Rimmel Exaggerate navy liquid liner '007', Sleek True Colour in 'Blaze', Sleek Sheer Cover in 'Calico', Rimmel EYEFUL eye glistener in 'Flaunt'

 

So I love the Rimmel polish and it does what it says on the tin; a French manicure base colour. I also really like the liquid liner and navy is not a colour a usually go for in liner but it is actually a flattering shade for my eye colour (my eyes are a greeny bluish with a bit of  grey colour) and I think this shade will be lovely for a night out; plus it's really easy to apply. I really like the EYEFUL pencil as well; it is basically a shadow stick with a texture not too dissimilar from their scandaleyes range. The Sleek sheer cover lipstick is a lovely sheer shimmery toffee colour and it is great for everydaywear, however the true colour Sleek lipstick I picked up ain't really my cup of tea; it is a very dark bronze shimmery colour that would be perfect in an eyeshadow but not so much as a lipstick.

Now on to my favourite Poundland purchase; a Revlon Super Lustrous lip balm in 'Pink Crystal'. This is a great 'just throw it in your handbag' kind of lip balm, plus it smells of melon; lovely!

Poundland/Poundshop seem to stock drug store makeup (or sometimes even high-end although I wasn't quite lucky enough to get my hands on the Stila stock) when the brand has changed its packaging or name or if a product has been discontinued and although some of the stock is a load of tat if you do rummage you can find some gems, but be warned; you have to be prepared to take every thing off the rack just to get that one Revlon product right at the back!

Rimmel Apocalips - Celestial Review

I have being hearing so much about Rimmel's recent lip product 'Apocolips' so I figured I just had to pick a shade up to see what all the hype was about. After much debate down the Rimmel aisle of my local Boots I settled for 'Celestial' (mainly for the name) which is a gorgeous pink raspberry colour.
If you have never tried out or owned a lip lacquer before they are basically the combination of a lipstick, a gloss and a stain, so what you get with this product is the high pigmentation of a lipstick, the longevity of a stain and the finish of a gloss; the best of three worlds.
 

 

 

I am such a sucker for the packaging of products (it's why I choose Innocent smoothie's over Tesco's own every time) so I fell in love with the crystalline effect lid of this lip lacquer; I also love how all the shades are named after galactic things. I was quite sceptical of this product at first because I was worried it might be too sticky on the lips which is the reason I tend not to wear a lot of gloss because I just don't like the feel of it, however thankfully for me the texture of Celestial is just right; it's not sticky but you do get a lovely satin finish. I have been wearing this lacquer pretty much non-stop since I purchased it and every time it has lasted 5-6 hours even after eating and drinking so it's definitely not one of these products that you need to constantly reapply to achieve the full effect.

 

 

I really, really like the colour of 'Celestial' and I think it is just the right amount of colour for everyday wear, I also really liked 'Luna' which is a beautiful peachy coral colour that I think I will certainly be purchasing on my next trip to Boots or Superdrug. I think Rimmel's Apocolips will probably become my next beauty obsession and at £5.99 a pop you can't really go wrong!
